Saab 2000 Commuter Version

TEMPUR Magazine February 2008, stated that Royal Malaysian Air Force is planning to procure the Saab 2000 for their Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft.

Some background about this procurement program. The planning to acquire such capability has been in place since Malaysia 6th Plan. Now is the middle of Malaysia 9th Plan.

Why Saab 2000?

This Sweden made aircraft was designed for passenger carrying aircraft. The European Regulation limit aircraft operation for maximum 25 years. The age of Saab 2000 which has been stopped production since 1999, is between 9 to 16 years old. The first batches are going to phased out another 9 years.

If you are the owner of Saab 2000, what should you do? Sell the aircraft? Who in this earth willing to spend billion of dollar just to get second-hand refurbished junk scrap metal to kill their own people.

The aircraft manufacturer will achieve their objective? But what do you think of the objective of the new buyer?

Local contractor is required for the procurement process

Dear Malaysian readers,

Whenever the government want to procure an equipment for the military they have to go through the local contractor (LC). This LC is the one who set the price not the manufacturer (OEM). The OEM will not tell you the actual price.

And you know, the LC know nothing about the product. They just be a middleman. They will get 20%. For example if we spend RM1 billion, the LC will paid RM200 million. They will become reach just like that.

Why not direct purchase??

Hey! guys... That is your money that you pay every year and the money from the oil and your bloody sweat. Don't you feel anything?

Sad to say, nobody can do anything because that is Government Policy. This issue cannot be discussed in the Parliament because it is Government Policy. When they make the policy last time the opposition party also present but thier voices being overruled by the 2/3 majority.

This is only one example...there are so many to come...
